Washington Redskins Rely on Jason Campbell
Which version of Jason Campbell is it Redskins NFL enthusiasts can anticipate this season? The quarterback that is disliked and halfway out of town? Or is he the second version of Doug Williams, just like Clinton Portis had so powerfully indicated recently?
His performance is what this season is all going to revolve around. Clinton Portis could end this season with close to 11000 yards rushing for his lifetime, positioning himself for Hall of Fame consideration with nearly three or 4 solid seasons left in his playing days.
It won't mean much.
Malcolm Kelly can turn out to be one of the leading youthful WRs in the NFL this year, capable of receiving comparisons to Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson by year's end.
It won't matter.
Brian Orakpo may be the next version of Lawrence Taylor, wreaking havoc on the weak side of the entire NFC East.
It won't matter.
All that makes a difference is that Washington comes out on top in no less than 10 contests, and that their quarterback is the most eminent individual in every one of those anticipated 10 victories.
Ignore the fact that he went half a year in 2008 without an interception, it was all revolving around the marvelous Clinton Portis in the course of that span. When things went sour for the franchise, it wasn't Clinton Portis that shouldered the blame.
It was Campbell, who wasn't the only Redskin with reduced output during the swoon, although was the only recipient of the tabloid radio and print media commotion that came after.
The majority of people are in Jason Campbell's defense, and nobody heads up that corner's praise louder than me.
Although from a neutral standpoint, there is a very small difference between success and mess for Campbell this forthcoming season, and nothing else Washington may do or is capable of doing will surpass the stability he needs to show from week one and beyond.
